MILLINGTON, Tenn. (Oct. 7, 2000) - Scott Geoffrion made a little history tonight at Memphis Motorsports Park. The Dodge R/T driver set the quickest time in NHRA Winston Pro Stock history when he clocked a 6.809-second elapsed time at 201.43 mph during the final session for tomorrow's AutoZone NHRA Nationals.

"We were on the ragged edge with that run," said Geoffrion, who also ran the fastest time in Hemi engine history. "I was carrying a lot of rpm's in that run. We made a perfect run in perfect conditions.

"(Car owner) David Nickens and this Team Mopar crew deserve a lot of credit," said the nine-time NHRA national event winner. "I still can't believe it."

Not to be outdone, the Hemi-powered Dodge Motorsports R/T of Larry Morgan ran the fifth-quickest time in NHRA Pro Stock history with an impressive 6.830/200.59 combination. Morgan will face Tom Martino in round one.

"I can't say enough about this Hemi program," said Morgan, who also was the first Hemi-powered driver to break the 200 mph barrier in round number three. "That was an amazing pass. The clutch set up was perfect and the car was pretty straight."

Geoffrion will face teammate Darrell Alderman in round number one. Alderman, driver of the other Team Mopar Dodge R/T, grabbed the 16th-qualifying position with a 6.880/199.79 effort.

"I'm so happy for Mopar and the Nickens Brothers operation," said Alderman, who has 27 national event victories to his credit. "I was a little loose in my run."

Alderman's 6.880-second bump spot matched the quickest NHRA Pro Stock field in history, which was set at Old Bridge Township Raceway Park in Englishtown, N.J., earlier this year.

Dean Skuza and the Matco Tools/Mopar Parts Dodge R/T Nitro Funny Car earned the 14th-qualifying position with a 5.007/278.98 combination.

"We have worked on this car all weekend," Skuza said. "The track is quick and the cooler temperatures will have an effect during tomorrow's session."

Todd Patterson dropped to the12th-qualifying position after not improving in round one. The Dodge Motorsports Dakota R/T pilot ran a 7.485/178.31 combination during Friday's second session. It was Patterson's quickest run if his career, within the quickest NHRA Pro Stock Truck field in history.

"I'm looking forward to tomorrow," said Patterson, who will take on Rick Jones in round one. "We had some clutch troubles today. We'll figure it out though."

Dale Eaton, driver of the Team Mopar Dodge Dakota R/T, missed the field with a 7.503/177.18 effort and the Dodge Motorsports Dakota R/T of Craig Eaton failed to qualify with a 7.514/178.92.
