DIXON HOPES PAST SUCCESS CONTINUES AT MEMPHIS

MILLINGTON, Tenn. (Aug. 14, 2006) Larry Dixon has experienced plenty of success during the past 12 seasons behind the wheel of his 300-mph Miller Lite dragster. The veteran racer's resume is highlighted by consecutive series titles (2003-04) and 38 NHRA Top Fuel wins, the third most in NHRA history. Dixon also has reached the winner's circle at 19 of the 21 tracks on the NHRA schedule.

One track where the two-time NHRA Top Fuel champ has encountered a great deal of success is Memphis Motorsports Park. The 1995 NHRA Rookie of the Year hopes that his Memphis hot streak continues when the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing series makes its final 2006 visit to Tennessee, August 18-20, for the 19th annual O'Reilly Mid-South Nationals. Along with victories in 2002 and '04, Dixon has amassed a 19-4 round mark at the Memphis track over the past six seasons.

"On paper, it shows that we've had some pretty good success at Memphis," Dixon said. "A few years ago, they changed it to where we run it the race in August and at night. Although it's the same venue, we race in very different conditions. What we've done in the past might not apply to the current format, but I still enjoy racing there."

After debuting a new chassis this past weekend at the Brainerd, Minn. race, Dixon recorded his best qualifying outing (third) since the Las Vegas race in April with a solid 4.550-second elapsed time. The veteran Top Fuel pilot is hoping the Miller Lite/Lucas Oil team can continue the consistency they experienced in qualifying and convert that to another successful race day in Memphis.

"I'm looking forward to trying to take advantage of what the car showed us performance-wise in qualifying last weekend at Brainerd," Dixon said. "Although we had a mechanical failure bite us first round, I thought the car ran pretty well. If we can keep going forward with what we did in qualifying, we might have a race car that can be reckoned with."
