LARRY DIXON AND MILLER LITE DRAGSTER SIT NO. 13 AFTER ONE QUALIFYING PASS AT MEMPHIS MOTORSPORTS PARK

TOP FUEL CLASS GETS ONE MORE PROVISIONAL LAP SUNDAY BEFORE ELIMINATIONS LATER THAT AFTERNOON

MEMPHIS, TN. (Oct. 9) - With rain washing out qualifying sessions on Friday, Larry Dixon and the Don Prudhomme-owned Miller Lite Dragster waited patiently for most of the day before posting their only provisional lap of 4.752 seconds at 308.92 mph Saturday to qualify No. 13 at the AutoZone Nationals at Memphis Motorsports Park.

With qualifying sessions originally scheduled at Noon and 4 p.m., a second day of misty rain did not allow Dixon to make his first provisional lap of the weekend until 6 p.m. The Miller Lite Team waited throughout the night for a second attempt at the track as scattered rain kept them waiting until action was eventually called by the NHRA just after 11 p.m.

The top fuel class, which usually enjoys four qualifying sessions prior to the elimination round, will only run two provisional laps before beginning the eliminator round. The second and final qualifying pass is scheduled for 10 a.m. Sunday, followed by the elimination round at 1 p.m.

Dixon has qualified the Miller Lite Dragster on the pole on three occasions this season (Gainesville, Houston, Dallas) and is currently the fourth best qualifier overall among top fuel drivers heading into the season-ending $100,000 exhibition shootout in Pomona.

He has recorded one win in three final round appearances this season and also owns the national elapsed-time record as the first driver to break the 4.5-second barrier (4.486 seconds). Dixon has seven NHRA national event wins in 17 final round appearances and was the 1995 NHRA Rookie of the Year.
