MILLER LITE DRAGSTER POSTS FIRST-ROUND FINISH AFTER QUALIFYING TENTH AT MEMPHIS MOTORSPORTS PARK

LARRY DIXON RETURNS TO ACTION AT O'REILLY FALL NATIONALS AT DALLAS

MEMPHIS, TN (Oct. 10) - In a rain-shortened weekend at the Autozone Nationals, Larry Dixon and the Don Prudhomme-owned Miller Lite Dragster recorded a first-round finish Sunday with a pass of 4.700 seconds at 295.72 mph at Memphis Motorsports Park.

Scattered rain throughout the weekend limited the Miller Lite Team to only two of the usual four qualifying laps that top fuel teams rely on to gage their tune-ups heading into the elimination round. Dixon saw the No. 91 car qualified in the 13th position after Saturday's pass of 4.752 seconds at 308.92 mph. His second and final provisional lap of 4.676 seconds at 311.85 mph on Saturday would bump him up to tenth position heading into Sunday's elimination round.

Dixon's first-round meeting with No. 7-qualifier Kenny Bernstein (4.573 at 306.53) marked the third consecutive time the two drivers have met in the opening stanza of 1999 NHRA Winston Drag Racing Series events.

Dixon and the Miller Lite Dragster remain ninth (1,010 points) in the Winston Top Fuel point standings and look to resume their winning ways at the O'Reilly Fall Nationals in Dallas (Oct. 21-24). Marking the Snake Racing team's return to the Lone Star State will be the Miller Lite "True to Texas" Top Fuel Dragster, the first car to break the 4.5 second elapsed-time barrier.
