Chicago - Clay Millican of Team 104+ Octane Boost/Lehman Racing, the 2001 and 2002 International Hot Rod Association (IHRA) Top Fuel Champion and winningest Top Fuel driver in IHRA history, will return to the NHRA after a three-and-a-half month hiatus to compete in the U.S. Nationals in Indianapolis on August 27 - September 1 at the Indianapolis Raceway Park.

"I am really excited to jump back over to the NHRA," said Millican. "I think it is exciting that we have a chance of winning the biggest race in drag racing. I feel confident that our team can compete, especially since our Crew Chief, Mike Kloeber, has won at this race before (with former Funny Car driver Don Prudhomme)."

Millican enters the U.S. Nationals off of a record-setting stint in the IHRA. At the recent Northern Nationals in Martin, Mich., Millican broke the record for IHRA Top Fuel career wins with his 26th career victory, breaking "Big Daddy" Don Garlits' previous record of 25 wins, which was set in 1979. Millican hopes that his success will carry over to the NHRA, and is looking for his first NHRA Top Fuel victory in Indianapolis.

In his last NHRA race, the K&N Filters Supernationals in Englishtown, N.J., Millican was the number two qualifier and advanced to the quarterfinals, where he lost to Top Fuel points leader Larry Dixon. Millican was leading the race at the 60-foot mark, but dropped a cylinder and finished in 4.644 seconds, while Dixon made the quarter mile pass in 4.537.

Millican, a Drummonds, Tenn. native, won his first Top Fuel event in 2000 at an IHRA event in Grand Bend, Ontario. He finished second in the IHRA point totals that year, followed by back-to-back IHRA championships in 2001 and 2002. In addition to his championships, Millican holds a variety of records:

- Winningest Top Fuel driver in IHRA history with 26 victories

- All-time consecutive Top Fuel victory record with 10 straight event wins

- All-time Top Fuel record of 30 consecutive round wins

- Most wins in a season with 11 IHRA victories in 2002

- IHRA Top Fuel record holder in elapsed time and speed

Millican is currently in 15th place in the NHRA Top Fuel points standings, an impressive feat considering that he has raced in only seven of the 16 NHRA races that have taken place this year. He is scheduled to race in 12 of the 23 NHRA events this season, and is viewed as an up-and-coming star in the league. He has qualified for eliminations in all of the NHRA races in which he has competed this year, and was the number two qualifier in three of these races. He hopes to build on this success in Indianapolis.
