Career best qualifying position for Koretsky in Mace Cavalier -- Qualifies sixth
MILLINGTON, Tenn. -- Behind the wheel of the Mace/Bucks County Kawasaki/Rally Wax Pro Stock Chevrolet Cavalier, Kenny Koretsky's run of 6.854 seconds in Saturday's first qualifying session moved the Richboro, Pa., driver from the 22nd spot to sixth. By finishing qualifying in sixth position on the qualifying ladder at the NHRA O'Reilly Mid-South Nationals presented by Pennzoil, Koretsky recorded his best qualifying spot of the 2002 NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series and the highest Pro Stock qualifying position of his NHRA career.
"I was totally elated that we were able to have a good session this morning and get this Mace Cavalier in the field," said Koretsky. "We had a good run last night but got a little loose and scrubbed off some time and wound up 22nd. It was a great recovery for the entire crew today. Now we'll see if we can go a few rounds tomorrow."
Crew chief Eddie Guarnaccia, Jr., added, "What we have now is real. Debuting our new engine program in Brainerd , we qualified 10th. Then after qualifying 12th at Indy, we didn't have a good outing at our home track in Maple Grove and DNQ'd and you heard the whispers, 'Are these guys for real?' Well, let me tell you this Mace/Bucks County Kawasaki/Rally Wax Team is for real!
"We've got top half power. We've always had a pretty good handle on race track conditions and have a good handle on the fuel -timing combination and clutch-transmission combination. We proved that this weekend by adjusting to the weather conditions. You have to know what these cars want. The entire team has confidence in the program we are developing here at Kenny Koretsky Motorsports."
Koretsky debuted the Mace Security International, Inc. ("Mace") marketing partnership at the Mac Tools U.S. Nationals in Indy. Mace, headquartered in Mount Laurel, N.J., is the country's first publicly traded company (NASDAQ: MACE) to focus on growth in the car wash industry. Operating under the brand name Super Bright Car Wash & Express Detailing, Mace owns and operates numerous full service and exterior only car washes throughout the United States.
Additionally, led by its highly recognized Mace® brand product line, Mace is also a leading manufacturer of less-than-lethal defense sprays for consumers and has over 15 years of experience in manufacturing, marketing and retailing products and services in several sectors of the security products industry including electronic and chemical security products, security training, child safety products and private corrections integration systems.
In tomorrow's opening round of eliminations, Koretsky will be matched against Troy Coughlin, from Delaware, Ohio. Coughlin qualified 11th with a pass of 6.866 seconds at 200.14 mph. Eliminations get underway at 11 a.m.
"I think we should have a pretty good day tomorrow. I'm looking forward to being able to make a decision based on the better lane of the day. Kenny will do a good job for us and the crew will give him a good car to do battle with," concluded Guarnaccia following qualifying.
