NO FORCE CAN HOLD BACK MORGAN LUCAS

Wins Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series Division 7 Top Alcohol Dragster Event

SONOMA, CA. (Aug. 6) -- Morgan Lucas rumbled the neighboring vineyards at Infineon Raceway with another win on Sunday in consecutive weeks driving the Forrest and Charlotte Lucas-owned A-Fuel dragster in the Division 7 event on the NHRA Lucas Oil drag racing series. Lucas replicated his Top Alcohol winning ways reaching the finish line first over Ashley Force. He ran a time of 5.352 seconds, 261.37 mph to Force's languishing time of 5.658 seconds, 253.95 mph extending his total number of NHRA sportsman wins to 12 out of 13 final round appearances.

"The last time (04 Pomona2-Semi-Finals) we raced she got the upper hand on it," said Lucas. "Now I think now we're even at 2-2 in eliminations. I got fortunate to get by Duane Shields on a hole-shot in the second round and against Chris Demke; we had a starting line mishap with them in the first round. It could have been confused as a game but it really wasn't. It was just a mistake. They were very understanding and reemphasized my belief in what sportsman racing is supposed to be all about. They handled it well."

Seven days earlier, he won the Lucas Oil section of the Alcohol dragster division of the NHRA Fram/Autolite Nationals taking the win light on a hole-shot over Duane Shields in the thrilling finals reigniting Lucas' competitive fire. It was his third sportsman victory at the event (2004 and 06) and having only his Alcohol dragster to contend with this weekend brought back the memory of merriment into Lucas' racing agenda that he enjoys in the relaxing atmosphere of a divisional event.

"It's refreshing and reminds me why I got involved in the drag racing in the first place," said a laid-back Lucas. "We can go out, have fun and do the best we can."

Car owners, Forrest and Charlotte, his parents, were exuberant when they heard the good news while on a business trip.

"They were tickled to death especially because their Super Comp car won also. Kyle Rizzoli drove my mom's car today for their win. It was a neat deal and a good day for everyone."

Lucas will continue his sportsman campaign and is planning on taking his victory ride to the Silver Anniversary running of the Lucas Oil Nationals at Brainerd, Minnesota and then onward to the prestigious 52nd annual Mac Tools U.S. Nationals at O'Reilly Raceway Park in Indianapolis on Labor Day weekend.
