GLENDORA, Calif. (Feb. 10, 2004) - NHRA officials announced today that television partner ESPN will continue to produce 16 one-hour shows highlighting coverage from select NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series national events in 2004.
The NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series coverage will be showcased on ESPN2 on a taped-delay basis as part of NHRA's exclusive relationship with ESPN, the worldwide leader in sports.
"It is very important that we provide a platform for our NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series competitors to gain valuable exposure on ESPN2 for their sponsors," said Tom Compton, president, NHRA. "The competition in all of the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series categories is exciting and gives NHRA fans an opportunity to watch the future stars of the sport. Over the years, the NHRA Lucas Oil Series has become a great proving ground to many drivers as they have moved on to success in the NHRA POWERade Series."
In addition, each of the 41 half-hour episodes of NHRA 2Day, NHRA's weekly news magazine show hosted by Bill Stephens that airs each Sunday on ESPN2, will feature a Sportsman Spotlight segment focusing on the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series and NHRA's member track network.
Veteran motorsports announcer Marty Reid will continue to anchor the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series telecasts and will be joined in the booth by Bob Frey, with David Rieff continuing his duties as pit reporter.
