Antron Brown Reaches Semifinals At Mopar Mile-High NHRA Nationals

Brown had his rear tires light up against eventual-race-winner Massey, who went on to record a 4.068-second pass at 298.47 miles per hour.
“It was still a good race day,” said Brown, who will remain fourth in the 2011 NHRA Full Throttle Top Fuel standings. “Overall, the car really responded to what we wanted it to do this weekend. That’s always a good sign going forward.
“For sure, we want to win every race we compete in, but if you are going to lose to someone it might as well be your teammate. We were right there with him until the tires let loose. We just didn’t pull it back enough to accommodate the track. We tried to run a four-flat, but it just wouldn’t hold.”
En route to his meeting with Massey, the 35-year-old New Jersey native posted impressive wins over Terry McMillen and Del Worsham. In taking out Worsham, the current points leader, Brown laid down a 3.961-second run at 310.20 mph.
“We knew we had to step it up against those Al-Anabi guys,” offered Brown. “They have been running incredibly well all year long, so it was nice we were able to get by them early in the day.”
With Denver in the rear view mirror, Brown will now turn his attention to next weekend’s 24th-annual FRAM/Autolite NHRA Nationals at Infineon Raceway in Sonoma, Calif. It is the second of three races on consecutive weekends which comprise the infamous Western Swing.
“We’re optimistic we are going to go out there and get the job done,” he said. “There are only four more races in the regular season before we get to the Countdown to 1. We need to be performing at our best by the time they reset the points.”
