This Week In Ford Racing
As Bob Tasca III prepares for the 2011 Full Throttle Series race at Bandimere Speedway in Denver this weekend, his crew dials in for high temperatures and altitude, while Tasca is reminded of the storied Ford history he is quickly becoming a part of as he drives his Motorcraft/Quick Lane Ford Mustang down the strip.

YOUR SPONSOR, FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE DIVISION, AND ITS BRANDS HAVE A STORIED HISTORY IN AMERICAN MOTORSPORTS. HOW DOES IT FEEL TO DRIVE FOR THEM? “I’m honored to be able to be in the position to take Motorcraft back to how it was with Bob Glidden, one of my greatest heroes in NHRA drag racing. I liked how he conducted himself with the fans, how he ran his program, his determination to win. He had so many qualities that I admire. To be able to represent a brand that he put on the map in drag racing and to be able to continue that history in the sport of NHRA drag racing is what’s most important to me. I’m certainly very humbled and my goal is to build on that rich history that he started. Obviously, we’re very early in my career and we certainly have high expectations on what we can continue to deliver for Motorcraft that was started by such a legend in the sport.
WHEN YOU WERE GROWING UP, BOB GLIDDEN WAS YOUR NHRA DRAG RACING HERO. HE STILL IS. DID YOU HAVE ANY GLIDDEN MEMORABILIA WHEN YOU WERE YOUNG? I had his crew shirt. I still have it to this day. I have one of the original crew shirts that Glidden had back in the 90’s. I was probably 18-years-old. Motorcraft is one of the brands I grew up. I was born and raised in a Ford dealership. Not only is it a privilege to carry on such an amazing tradition Motorcraft has had in the sport, but also to represent brands that have been such a part of my life from my earliest days I can remember. I remember walking through the parts department and seeing the blue boxes and the red boxes. Asking my dad why are they different color boxes. I was probably six or seven years old at that time. The blue boxes are the OEM (original manufactured equipment) and the red boxes, Motorcraft. It really is a special opportunity for Motorcraft and Tasca to come together.
LOOKING FORWARD TO DENVER, HOW IS THE CREW GETTING READY FOR THE ALTITUDE AND THE HEAT? “Well, it’s all about the setup. Denver is hands down the most unique racing weekend of the year because the cars are set up so dynamically different than they are anywhere in the country. It’s a wonderful facility to race at. They sound different (the race cars), certainly strategy plays a big role in the teams as they roll into Denver as in how they want to set their cars up. There are a lot of different ways to end up and different adjustments you can make. Ultimately it comes down to the teams that make the right adjustments. And for us being our fourth year, our second with the Ford set-up, we’ve got a lot of confidence. We’ve got that and we’ve got some history to look back on. I think that’s a big advantage. A new driver and a new team roll into Denver, they probably have their hands full. So I feel very confident that we’ll make the right decisions to put our Motorcraft/Quick Lane Ford Mustang in a strong position to win this weekend.
