Tasca, Motorcraft/Quick Lane Team Earn Crucial Round Win In Seattle
SEATTLE, Aug. 7, 2011 – Bob Tasca III earned a crucial round win at a time when NHRA Full Throttle Series points couldn’t be more important.
After struggling in qualifying, Tasca and the Motorcraft/Quick Lane Ford Mustang Funny Car team overcame the worst – a broken chassis – to earn a first-round win against points leader Mike Neff at the NHRA Northwest Nationals at Pacific Raceways.
Tasca drove to a 4.133-second finish, on par with the quickest of qualifiers from the weekend, at 307.02 mph to Neff’s 4.50 at 206.64 in Round 1. He then faced another John Force Racing entry in Round 2, Robert Hight, and lost in a smoke-fest that saw Tasca pedal to a 5.715 at 237.13 to Hight’s 4.966 at 189.02.
“We had an unbelievable win and an unbelievable loss,” Tasca said. “We had a monster match-up in the first round. The car ran great. We pulled out all the stops against Neff and we got that big win. When you see Tim Wilkerson (10th in points entering Seattle) and Johnny Gray lose (11th in points pre-Seattle), you know you want to keep pace with one of them.
“In Round 2 against Robert, you know you have to run hard. We ran hard early. I pedaled the car as much as I could because I saw him in trouble. We’ll move on to Brainerd.”
Two races remain before the Countdown to the Championship playoff season begins. Drivers who are in the Top 10 after the U.S. Nationals at Indianapolis will be eligible for the world championship title. Getting in the Top 10 is key – a fact Tasca and the Motorcraft/Quick Lane team won’t forget.
