Line Advances to Norwalk Semifinals, Maintains Points Lead

Jason Line continued his solid march through the 2011 NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing season, advancing to the semifinals of today’s Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Nationals in Norwalk, Ohio. Starting from the third position, the Summit Racing driver used two of the quickest passes in each of the first two rounds at 6.599 and 6.609-seconds respectively, to eliminate sophomore runner Shane Gray and 2009 Pro Stock champion Mike Edwards, sending him to the semifinals for the fourth time this season.

The final obstacle between Line and the 51st final round of his career was veteran and hometown favorite Larry Morgan, who was having his best showing of the season. Unfortunately, the KB Racing entry slowed from its performance in the earlier rounds, with the resultant 6.644-second, 208.42 mph pass allowing his opponent to just edge him with his 6.641-second, 207.94 mph run.

Although his performance allowed him to maintain his position as the leader in the Full Throttle championship standings, Line was naturally disappointed to not have delivered a win at his sponsor’s race, admitting the team would have plenty of work to do before the next race in Chicago.

“We had a Summit Racing Pontiac capable of winning the race, but are still leaving without the trophy, which is unacceptable,” said Line. “We backed the car down, and nuked the clutch, which naturally hurt the run, which, combined with the driver not doing his job, resulted in our becoming spectators for the rest of the day. We have a lot of things to work on to get better so we can make the most of these opportunities.

“The good news is that we’ve made Greg’s (teammate Anderson) car better, my car has been fairly good, and we certainly have the potential to turn this around in short order. It all comes down to doing a better job on race day, which we owe to Summit and all of our sponsors. We have a few days before our next race in Chicago, and hopefully we’ll have ourselves back on track by then.”
