Lucas Oil pro Morgan prepared for Western Swing
The NHRA Western Swing begins in full force with this weekend's Mopar Mile-High NHRA Nationals at Bandimere Speedway, and while some may dread the three-races-in-three-weeks stretch, Lucas Oil Ford Mustang driver Larry Morgan looks forward to it.

Following the Denver race, the NHRA Pro Stock drivers head to Infineon Raceway in Sonoma, Calif., followed by the annual trek to Seattle. The stretch is enough to wear down the heartiest of travelers, but the always-prepared Morgan takes it all in stride.
"I'm looking forward to going out there," Morgan said. "The swing's kind of the relaxing part of the season for me. We're working on a lot of new things, and we're looking forward to going."
Morgan's Lucas Oil team is based in Newark, Ohio, making a return home after each race out of the question. That means preparation will be crucial as the team hits the road for a three-race stretch.
"There's no time to come back," Morgan said. "That's why I went back home after Chicago and worked on all my stuff so I've got plenty of bullets."
The 10-time Pro Stock winner ranks 12th in the NHRA Full Throttle standings and heads to Denver with some momentum. Morgan qualified seventh – his best effort of the season – and advanced to the finals at Norwalk, Ohio, just two races ago.
Morgan and the rest of the Pro Stock field will battle the thin Denver air, and engines will be gasping for air and horsepower for this race. A veteran engine man, Morgan knows getting an engine to perform in the mile-high air is tough, but that doesn't bother him.
"It's difficult, but it's not as bad as everybody likes to think it is," Morgan said. "They can talk themselves out of running well.
"I like Denver. I hate it when it gets this hot, and I'm sure everybody else does, too. But you know what? We're looking forward to going to Denver. We'll be fine."
