High Stakes Have Anderson Targeting Top Performance in Norwalk
Mooresville, N.C., June 23, 2010 -- To most competitors, this weekend's Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Nationals in Norwalk, Ohio is just another race, the 13th stop on the 23-race Full Throttle Drag Racing schedule. However, for Greg Anderson and every member of the Summit Racing Pro Stock team, this event is one of the most important of the season as the name on their race car is the same as that of the race and the racetrack. With a large contingent of Summit executives and employees expected to come out and support their efforts, and a $50,000 winner's prize available in Saturday's K&N Horsepower Challenge specialty race, Anderson knows it is paramount to deliver a strong performance.
"This is without a doubt one of the biggest races of the year for our Summit Racing team, and we treat it as such," said Anderson. "Not only will we be racing in our sponsor's race at our sponsor's track, but we also have the K&N Horsepower Challenge on Saturday, where we'll be going for a $50,000 payday. I'd say we've got things covered as far as excitement is concerned.
"Of course, there's a little added pressure, because it's very important that we do well in front of all the folks from Summit who will come out to see us. Fortunately, every time we go to a Summit-sponsored race, we seem to up our level of performance, so maybe this race is exactly what the doctor ordered."
Anderson's optimism about his chances for success at Summit Racing Equipment Motorsports Park is well founded, given the KB Racing team's record in previous races in the Buckeye State. In the three-year history of Norwalk's inclusion on the NHRA national tour, Anderson and teammate Jason Line have each scored a win, with a Summit-sponsored car capturing the No. 1 qualifying position every year. In addition, having made some progress with their warm weather tune-up, the three-time champion is anxious to get started.
"I'm excited about our prospects for this weekend," said Anderson. "Summit Motorsports Park is a great track, run by tremendous people who work very hard to put on an outstanding show. The track itself is second to none, so you have no excuses. We've been fortunate to perform well there over the years, with Jason and me winning the last two races, so naturally we love going there.
"Our Summit Racing Pontiacs are also coming around. We showed some flashes of brilliance last week in Bristol, which I think we'll build on here in Ohio. I'm pretty sure we raised a couple of eyebrows, with people realizing that we are going to getting better as the races go on. We might not dominate, but we are certainly going to be a factor, with a legitimate shot at winning both on Saturday and Sunday. It's just a great weekend that we look forward to every year, and I can't wait to get there."
Should Anderson break through and score his first win of the 2010 season, by his own admission, he could not script a better location.
"I keep looking for a place to have that get well weekend," said Anderson. "With everything on the line in Norwalk, from its being our sponsor's race to having all the Summit people cheering us on, there would be nothing better to get that first 2010 win there. I owe it to everyone at Summit Racing Equipment, who has supported us for so many years. I want them to be proud to have their name on the side of our race cars, so we're going to do everything humanly possible to get them that trophy. If we do, I guarantee there will be a huge party on Sunday night."
