Humphreys' Plans Foiled by Faulty Transmission
Justin Humphreys felt he had an excellent opportunity to win some rounds in Sunday's inaugural Summit Racing Equipment Nationals . . . until he shifted into second gear. And in a few short seconds, his race was over.
"I pulled it into second gear and it wouldn't go in," a disappointed Humphreys said following his first-round loss to Jason Line in Nowalk, Ohio. Line won with a time of 6.658 seconds at 207.94 mph to a coasting 13.462 at 62.71 mph. "That was the first time that has ever happened to me."
Humphreys had two good qualifying runs Saturday on a hot racetrack and believes the RaceRedi Motorsports Pontiac GTO is ready to become a regular in the 16-car starting fields.
"We have a good car," he added. "Our performance is beginning to come together. We are looking forward to going on to Bristol (Tenn.) next week."
Humphreys qualified 11th, the highest of his rookie season, and he had the quickest Pro Stock run in Saturday's final qualifying run.
The third race of six races in a row comes Friday through Sunday in the Thunder Valley Nationals at Bristol.
