Ohioan Morgan always does well at homegrown track

NORWALK, Ohio (June 23) -- Native Ohioan Larry Morgan is going back home this weekend with a Lucas Oil Ford Mustang Pro Stock car he's not afraid to show off.

After several months of wresting with his new Ford power plant, the pieces have finally been working in harmony lately and the veteran engine builder from Newark, Ohio, has successfully qualified for the last two races in a Pro Stock class with razor-thin margins of error.

It all has Morgan anxiously awaiting the start of the this weekend's Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Nationals.

"I've been to the finals in Norwalk in two of the last three years," Morgan said, "so I'm really excited about going back there. I raced there growing up and know the family that owns the track, the Baders, very well. They're just a great bunch of people."

An added advantage to being so close to home is getting to sleep in your own bed every night.

"Oh yeah I like that part," Morgan said. "I live 90 minutes away, and we're driving it every day because it's not that bad of a ride."

Morgan knows there will be a large contingent of his fans showing up to see him race, which charges him up even more.

"I don't feel pressure," Morgan said. "This is my job. I want to do well every time I let the clutch out. With Ford, Lucas Oil, and Summit by my side, we'll give the fans plenty to cheer about."
