With 4 races in 4 weeks, many would consider the month of June to be the most challenging part of the NHRA Full Throttle tour. But add to that schedule the K&N Horsepower Challenge and the changing of a crew chief midway thru the month and suddenly these hectic four weeks take on an all new importance for Rodger Brogdon, Steve Kent and the Attitude Apparel /Kent Services Pro stock team.
As the 2010 NHRA season reaches the halfway mark, the "Pistonator" Rodger Brogdon wants to use this weekend's Summit Racing Equipment Nationals as the springboard that carries the team into the hunt for the season championship.
"We've been through a lot this year," began Brogdon, "and to say it's been extremely challenging at times would be an understatement. We've had a car that could run with anyone out here, yet struggled to be consistent. We've crashed and then thrashed to get the same car back on track in less than 2 weeks. We DNQ'd at Atlanta and saw our shot at the K&N Challenge begin to slip away, then fought our way back to secure the last spot in the field at the last possible opportunity."
"We're really looking forward to this weekend in Norwalk, and I say that for several reasons," Rodger continued. "We've probably made more changes to our program in the last few weeks than the other teams have made to their programs all year, yet what we've discovered of late tells us we're on the right track. Add to that the opportunity to be a part of the K&N Challenge for the first time and I can tell you that everyone on the team is anxious to get on track, not only for the K&N Challenge but to see what we can do on race day too."
"Team owner Steve Kent is as excited as I am right now with the way things are progressing. Tim Freeman, "Dr. Phil" (F.J. Acosta) and Jerry Eckman are now responsible for the car's setup and the "Weasel" (Brian Claas) is making sure that we get every last bit of the horsepower that Victor Cagnazzi's engine shop gives us. "Big Show" (Keith Graham) makes sure the rig gets to every race and works with the rest of the guys to make sure the car is ready for every lap we make. As a team, I think we're as strong now as we've ever been."
"If we can continue to refine what we've learned of late at both Norwalk and beyond, we can make the last half of the season interesting for everyone. We've known for awhile that we've had a car capable of winning, but I think now our focus is where it needs to be. This Saturday's K&N Challenge will be a good test of that focus."
