WATER SEEPAGE HALTS ACTION
SCHUMACHER NEVER GETS ON TRACK

NORWALK, Ohio, June 27 - Water leaking up from under the track abruptly stopped qualifying here Friday for the Summit Racing Equipment Nationals at Summit Racing Equipment Motorsports Park.

As a result, U.S. Army Top Fuel driver Tony "The Sarge" Schumacher never got a chance to make a qualifying attempt.

After the Pro Stock Motorcycle class completed its first round of qualifying and then seven Pro Stock cars got down the track, water began to emerge at various spots on the quarter-mile and attempts to control same failed.

"That's a real shame that the fans here in Norwalk did not have the opportunity to see a full round of pro competition," said Schumacher. "But, you obviously can't take a chance sending race cars on to a slick surface. That's just not a possibility.

"Apparently, they've had some 13 inches of rain in recent days and I guess the ground just couldn't handle it. We'll come back tomorrow and try it all over again."

Two qualifying sessions are scheduled for Saturday at 12:10 p.m. and 2:05 p.m. ET. Schumacher will be looking to ease into the 16-car field while shooting for a third straight victory on Sunday.

"That will be the plan for sure," he added. "We're on a roll of sorts right now, so it would be nice to keep going here in Ohio." Schumacher came into the race weekend holding first-place in the standings, a spot he's been in since the opening race of the season in February.
