Lee looking forward to NHRA return in Virginia

DINWIDDIE, Va. - On the heels of three straight IHRA final rounds, Nitro Funny Car driver Paul Lee and the Rislone Engine Treatment/J&B Motorsports team are looking forward to returning to the NHRA circuit at this weekend's Torco Race Fuels Nationals at Virginia Motorsports Park outside of Richmond. Lee posted a career-best 4.80 elapsed time last weekend and hopes to improve on that this weekend.

Lee, who holds a law degree from Rutgers and MBA from the Wharton School of Business, looks forward to lining up against his NHRA peers after making huge strides the past few weeks on the IHRA level.

"We've found a level of consistency our last few outings," said Lee. "We just keep creeping up on it. The way the car is running, I'm definitely excited about our chances."

Team Owner Jeff McGaffic cites the team found the problem that prevented them from getting their first win last weekend. He and Crew Chief Jimbo Ermalovich hope that will enable the team to return to the form that put them in the final last weekend.

"Upon inspection after the race, we found a problem in the clutch management system," said McGaffic. "We initially thought something went wrong in the clutch itself, but our Boninfante Clutch looked just fine when we pulled it out. That's when we looked elsewhere. Sometimes when you have a problem like that, it worries you until you put your hand on a definite problem. You don't want a gremlin hanging around to get you."

"We're just going to try to go from point A to B right off the trailer and go from there," McGaffic continued. "If we can do that, I think we'll be in good shape. We've enjoyed success over on the IHRA side, now we would like to make a good showing on the NHRA side for Rislone, Allied Machine, Boninfante and Science of Racing."

Qualifying begins on Friday with two sessions, followed by two sessions on Saturday. Final eliminations conclude the event on Sunday.
