BECKMAN TO DEBUT NEW MTS DESIGN IN PHOENIX TO SUPPORT "TO AFGHANISTAN WITH LOVE" PROGRAM

CHANDLER, Ariz. (Feb. 17, 2010) - Last Sunday, on Valentine's Day, Mail Terminal Services released the design and paint scheme on the New Valvoline/Mail Terminal Services Dodge Charger Funny Car that Jack Beckman will drive in this weekend's NHRA Arizona Nationals at Firebird Int'l Raceway and throughout the 2010 NHRA Full Throttle season.

This year's MTS program is called "To Afghanistan With Love," and will be dedicated to the service troops that are being built up in Afghanistan, where a large portion of the military mail that is handled by Mail Terminal Services is headed.

"This is a way to acknowledge these troops who will need the same words of encouragement and support as the service men and women of Iraq and other areas in the war zones," said Rodger Comstock, president and CEO of MTS.

Beckman enters this weekend's event with his and the team's focus on winning their first race of the year. "It's very interesting for us to have back to back races at the first two races of the year," said Beckman, a semifinalist in the season-opener in Pomona, Calif., last Sunday. "I cannot recall that ever being on the NHRA schedule that way. It's a different experience for everybody to go two months without running and then all of a sudden racing two weekends in a row.

"What I have noticed in my career is that the earlier you win in the season the more everybody on the crew feels like we're a championship contender. At this level, I think there's 10 or 12 Funny Car drivers who are capable of winning the championship. They've all got the right parts and people and I think sometimes the difference is the attitude. And getting their car in the winner's circle early in the year seems to be everyone's attitude toward their potential for winning the championship.

"Can't wait to race the 'To Afghanistan With Love' car this weekend," he added with pride. "We unloaded it in Pomona to get a couple of decals added to it. Great look. Very similar scheme to last year, but we decided to get a little bit louder with it. Instead of a subdued gray tone, it's got almost a chrome look.

"We're gearing up for another year with the Mail from Home program. By the end of this season we should be pretty close to 475,000 postcards, and that's almost one-half million. We may even do better than that; it's continuing to gain momentum.

"I don't want people to lose sight of what we're doing just because we've been doing it successfully for a couple of years. There's a lot of men and women out there who would like to be back home doing the things that we're doing, like enjoying the weekends at the races. But, right now, their sacrifices are giving us our freedom to make these choices.

"So, we have to keep sustaining this program, getting them thank-you messages, encouraging them, letting them know people support and care for them at home so that they can do their jobs more effectively and come home safe."

Mail Terminal Services will continue to send boxes of post cards of support and encouragement, along with hand-out cards of DSR drivers, National Dragster and Drag Racing Action magazines to soldiers overseas. Anyone wishing a friend or loved one to receive a package from MTS, should send a full name and APO address to mts.mfg@gmail.com.

This year Mail Terminal Services and the Mail From Home program is expanding the opportunity to participate beyond just the NHRA fans and are including schools and service organizations. If a school or organization would like to write post cards of encouragement to the U.S. troops, the request should be sent to mts.mfh@gmail.com. MTS will be pleased to send post cards for the project and signed handout cards from Funny Car driver Jack Beckman and a Certificate of Service for the school or organization.
