DIXON EYES FIRST WIN OF 2005 AS TEAM OWNER DON PRUDHOMME LOOKS TO COLLECT 100TH WIN

CHANDLER, Ariz. (Feb. 21, 2005) -- When your name is Larry Dixon and your boss is racing icon Don "the Snake" Prudhomme and your racing resumes are highlighted with NHRA championships and heaps of NHRA race wins, you strive to be nothing less than the best.

Success is something that Dixon and his mentor/boss, Don "the Snake" Prudhomme have become accustom to. Having spent nearly two decades as an employee of Don Prudhomme Racing, Dixon knows best what makes the Snake tick. At the top of that list is success at the drag strip.

Dixon and the two-car Snake Racing team aim for a successful weekend at the very track where Dixon scored his first career victory 10 years ago, when the NHRA POWERade Series makes its annual February visit to Phoenix for the 21st running of the Checker Schuck's Kragen Nationals, Feb. 25-27, at Firebird International Raceway. Prudhomme has claimed two of his 50 wins as a team owner at F.I.R.

Dixon's first career victory during his Rookie of the Year campaign in 1995 was the 50th win of Prudhomme's career and first as a team owner. Fast forward 10 years, and the Snake has added another 49 wins to that mark as he looks to become just the third driver/owner in NHRA history to claim 100 career wins (John Force, Warren Johnson).

"I hope that our Miller Lite team gives Snake his 101st win this weekend, that's what I'm really hoping for," Dixon said. "In the big picture of things, the success of Snake's race teams are more important than any kind of personal glory for me getting his 100th win. I hope Tommy (Johnson Jr.) gives him No. 100 and I give him No. 101 on Sunday at Phoenix."

Prudhomme has celebrated with both his Top Fuel dragster and Funny Car in the winner's circle at the same race three times since fielding cars in drag racing's two marquee categories. With both Dixon and Johnson Jr. posting career-best elapsed times at the season-opening Winternationals, the Snake is poised for anther double strike on his way towards another dual-car visit to victory lane.

"When you're sitting in the water box waiting to run and you see the Funny Car win, you're happy for them, so nowyou have to try and hold up your end of the bargain," Dixon said. "If you make it to the final round, you want to be able to close the deal and make it a sweep. It puts a little pressure on you. I know when we doubled-up at Pomona (Calif.), Brainerd (Minn.) and Columbus (Ohio), it's a great feeling. For Snake, it's very satisfying. He's had a two-car team since 1997 and it's only happened three times. So, when it does happen, it's obviously pretty satisfying for him."
