Coughlin out in round one

In the opening round Jeg Coughlin and his Jeg's Mail Order Chevy Cavalier went head-to-head against No. 1 qualifier Ron Krisher. Jeg lined up in the left lane. The two had faced off 13 previous times and Jeg turned on the win light in nine of their battles.

Jeg rolled into the pre stage beam first and Krisher slowly followed. Both Chevy Cavaliers cleared out their engines and moved forward. The starting line advantage went to Krisher by .008 seconds (.445 to .453). The Jeg's machine got to the 60-foot clock first by .01 seconds and continued to lead until half track.

The win light went to Krisher by .0124 seconds at the stripe. Jeg ran a 6.887 at 200.08 mph and made the eighth quickest run of the round.

"We made solid run in the first round and we were making better runs as the weekend progressed. I really think that we got a good handle on what the car and engine wanted," explained Jeg. "We will take everything back to the shop and continue to make enhancements to our engine program. We are planning on testing before the Mac Tools Gatornationals and we will be ready when Team Jeg's pulls through the gates at Gainesville Raceway."
