Troy was the first of the two Jeg's Mail Order machines to take on Firebird Internationals Raceway. He was in the left lane. The car launched from the starting line and shook the tires a little. The car made a move toward the centerline and then fought to get back into the groove. He did a great job driving.
Troy ran a 7.010 at 197.68 mph. He landed in the No. 14 position and made the sixth quickest run in the left lane.
"The left lane was tricky during the first session," commented Troy. "It will certainly be an issue that we will all have to deal with throughout the weekend."
Jeg took on the right lane for the first of the four scheduled qualifying sessions. The Jeg's machine took off from the line and headed straight down the middle of the groove. He ran 6.917 at 199.40 mph and grabbed the No. 4 spot.
"It always feels good to make a solid run in the first session," stated Jeg. "The run that we made during the first session will be used as a baseline. I believe that we will continue to see improvements throughout the weekend for Team Jeg's."
In the second session Troy rolled into the right lane with the goal of improving to the top half of the field. He launched from the beams and took off down the middle of the groove. The car started to move around from half-track to the finish line.
Troy ran a 6.945 at 198.47 mph. The run was an improvement for Troy and it moved him up to the No. 13 slot.
"We are moving in the right direction," said Troy. "I expect to see improvement across the board after having data on both lanes. We are really looking forward to tomorrow and breaking firmly into the top half of the field so we can have lane choice for first round on Sunday. I have to believe that the lanes will be a factor on raceday."
Jeg took on the left lane for the session two. The yellow and black Jeg's Mail Order Oldsmobile Cutlass was a little on the aggressive side when it left the starting line. The car darted down the left lane. There did not appear to be any major movement as it traveled down the track.
Jeg ran a 6.943 at 198.35 mph. The second pass was not an improvement and he slipped to the No. 6 position.
"We made a solid run in the left lane during the second session," commented Jeg. "After running down both lanes we will attack the track armed with real data on both lanes tomorrow."
There will be two additional qualifying sessions tomorrow. The third session is scheduled for 1:30 and the final session is at 3:30 (local time).
