NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series
Valspar® Refinish/Snap-On® Tools/Cyclo® Industries Pro Stock Grand Am
Drivers: Richie "The Kid" Stevens And Kenny Koretsky

Operative word for Team Koretsky is "Rebound"

Chandler, Ariz. - - "We need to rebound this weekend at the Checker, Schuck's, Kragen Nationals," says Kenny Koretsky, from Richboro, Pa., veteran Pro Stock driver and owner of Team Koretsky - KPK Motorsports.

Although Koretsky, in one of the team's two Valspar® Refinish/Snap-on® Tools/ Cyclo® Industries Pro Stock Pontiac Grand Ams, set a career best speed at 201.16 mph and teammate Richie Stevens posted a respectable elapsed time of 6.883 seconds, neither Team Koretsky driver broke into the top 16 at the season-opening K&N Filters Winternationals contested two weeks ago in Pomona, Calif.

"Having finalized our marketing partners Valspar Refinish, Snap-on Tools and Rally Wax just prior to the start of the season didn't allow us the necessary time to test before the opening event in Pomona," adds Koretsky. "However, we are not down and know that we have a team that is capable of competing with any Pro Stock team on the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series. At Phoenix, 'Rebound' is the word of the weekend for Team Koretsky.

"Since Pomona the primary engine has been completely examined and has been given a clean bill of health for the Phoenix race. This is the engine from Richie Stevens' Grand Am. I feel you will notice a considerable improvement in performance of both Team Koretsky cars this weekend."

Teammate, four-year pro Richie ^ÓThe Kid^Ô Stevens, from New Orleans, is just as optimistic.

"Now that we've had time to organize and get everything where it needs to be, I think we'll be all right," said Stevens. "I can't wait to take the car out on the track and test the new-found Iaconio horsepower. Tom Pierson (Co-crew chief) has spent the time since Pomona going over the car with a fine tooth comb. He has checked to insure that everything is right. So we should be ready to go when qualifying begins Friday. We'll rebound!

"For a number of reasons, Firebird is one of those tracks that I just haven't done well. I never seem to go rounds there and I definitely can't get a break in the luck department. It would definitely change my opinion of this track if I could go four rounds on Sunday. But first we have to qualify. If we can get in, no matter where, we have a shot at winning. George Marnell proved that at Pomona, coming from the 16th spot to take it all. To get in is a challenge in itself. The cars are so close. I just want to qualify."

Both Valspar Refinish/Snap-on Tools/Cyclo Industries Pontiac Grand Ams hit the track on Friday. Professional qualifying for the Checker Schuck^Òs Kragen Nationals at Firebird International Raceway in Chandler, Ariz., just outside Phoenix, begins with two sessions on Friday (Feb. 22) and concludes with two additional sessions on Saturday (Feb. 23). The top 16 qualifiers in each professional class advance to final eliminations which begin at 11 a.m. (MT) on Sunday (Feb. 24).
