Cory Mac and Carrier Boyz Racing look forward to season-opener.

LAS VEGAS (February 17, 2004) -- Just a little over a week ago, brothers Andy and Mark Carrier, from Bristol, Tenn., announced that veteran driver Cory McClenathan, from Riverside, Calif., had signed a multi-year contract to drive the Carrier Boyz Racing Berryman Top Fuel Dragster for 2004.

Yesterday the driver and team hit the quarter-mile track at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway for their first and only test session prior to this weekend's 44th annual K&N Filters Winternationals, the first of 23 events in the $50 million NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series at Pomona Raceway in Pomona, Calif.

That first test session of the year went smooth for McClenathan and Carrier Boyz Racing. In fact, the driver and team were so pleased with the testing that they cut short their remaining time on the track to spend quality time doing additional preparations to the Brad Hedman chassis for the upcoming Winternationals.

"I had some seat issues," said McClenathan. "It was sitting too low. So we decided to stop track testing and work on those areas so not to interfere with our other preparations for the Winternationals. Other than that, I was real happy with the time and results we had during our testing in Vegas. We turned a 65 (4.65 seconds) at 305 (mph) and some change.

"I want to thank Jimmy Walsh, Bob Bauer and crew for their work during the off-season in having this car ready for both the test session and the Winternationals. They are a professional group and very accommodating. Both Andy and Mark Carrier and I are now looking forward to Pomona."

McClenathan, who finished No. 5 in last year's NHRA POWERade Top Fuel point standings driving for Darrell Gwynn Racing, went to the final round at the 2003 season-opening K&N Filters Winternationals before losing to Larry Dixon. It was his first final round at the Winternationals and his third at Pomona Raceway. He won the AAA Auto Club of Southern California Finals in 2002 and was runner-up in 1994.

The first of four qualifying sessions begins this Thursday, with qualifying continuing through Saturday. Final Eliminations in all classes takes place Sunday.
