Grubnic energized about new ride for Pomona and beyond
Pomona, Calif., Feb. 16, 2003 -- In January, Kalitta Motorsports announced the addition of a third Top Fuel dragster to their already impressive lineup of racecars, which includes the Mac Tools dragster driven by Doug Kalitta and the Mac Tools/Jesse James dragster driven by Scott Kalitta. Native Australian David Grubnic was given the enviable assignment of driving the new Kalitta Air dragster. Since then, "Aussie Dave" has found it difficult to contain his excitement about getting this highly coveted ride.
When the 2004 season begins this week in Pomona, Calif., for the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series, Grubnic will likely be the most restless driver in the pits until he finally gets strapped in for his first pass down the quarter mile at Pomona Raceway in the K&N Filters Winternationals, Feb. 19-22.
"To say that I am more excited than ever to begin a season would be a huge understatement," Grubnic said. "This is an awesome opportunity for me and for the entire Kalitta Motorsports team. I have worked with some great teams and great people since I started driving in the U.S., but this is the chance of a lifetime, and I am stoked."
The new rail's primary mission will be to provide a vehicle for research and development in race-day conditions, but with the tuning combination of crew chief and drag racing legend Connie "Bounty Hunter" Kalitta and co-crew chief Jon Oberhofer, the dragster is capable of winning every event on the schedule.
