Pomona GMC Sonoma Friday Notes

Pomona, Calif. (February 4, 2000) - Qualifying for the Pro Stock Trucks continued today at the 40th annual AutoZone Winternationals at Pomona Raceway. Under cool, cloudy California skies, John Lingenfelter moved his Summit Racing Sonoma all the way up to the No. 3 qualifying spot with an elapsed time of 7.577 seconds at 177.88 mph. Rick Jones Country Motor Trailer Sales Sonoma is qualified 15th and David Spitzer's Dynagear/Sunnen Sonoma sits on the bump in the No. 16 qualifying position. The No. 1 qualifier is Steve Johns with an elapsed time of 7.527 seconds at 178.99 mph. Brad Jeter is qualified second, John Coughlin is fourth and Greg Stanfield is fifth.

John Lingenfelter (Summit Racing GMC Sonoma) -- "We're pretty excited over our run today. We were able to move the Summit Racing GMC Sonoma from eighth to third position because we feel the left lane was better than the right lane, and today we had the left lane. The other thing that got a little better was the temperature -- the track was cooler, and we made some adjustments on our truck from our earlier run yesterday to suit the current conditions. Tomorrow morning we're looking to get a track condition for the truck set-up for the first round on Sunday. The last qualifying session tomorrow should be the quickest of the event if the track conditions hold up. We feel our chances for Sunday are real good. The team is working really well together, and we feel really good about our chassis set-up and our engine program. We love the look of the Sonoma, so at this point everyone on the Summit Racing team is feeling real confident about good results on Sunday." No. 3 qualifier - 7.577ET/177.88MPH

Rick Jones (Country Motor Trailer Sales GMC Sonoma) -- "We had the right lane today and I don't think it was as good as the left lane. We probably revved it up a little bit too much and spun the tires more than what we would have wanted. We did pick up some time from the first round yesterday, but we should have run better than what we did. We'll just have to do better tomorrow morning. Since we'll have the good lane, we'll get it all figured out for the Country Motors Trailer Sales GMC Sonoma and get it deep in the field for Sunday." No. 16 qualifier - 7.636ET/176.51MPH

David Spitzer (Dynagear/Sunnen GMC Sonoma) -- "The track was better than we anticipated. We didn't really have enough clutch for the run, so we made a good pass considering the conditions. The Dynagear/Sunnen GMC Sonoma went a little to the left, and got upset in about third gear. Since it did the same thing in the other lane yesterday, we don't know if it's something inherent in the truck or not. Hopefully we'll get the combinations figured out, because tomorrow evening will be the session to post a good qualifying number. We have more left for tomorrow so hopefully we'll be able to move it up in the field." No. 16 qualifier - 7.637ET/176.26MPH
