Millican Ends '04 Season at NHRA Auto Club of Southern California Nationals
Pomona, Calif. - November 14, 2004 Clay Millican of Team 104+ Performance Additives/Lehman Racing ended his 2004 Top Fuel season with his third quickest career elapsed time and fourth best speed at the NHRA Auto Club of Southern California Nationals before losing in the first round to Cory McClenathan.
"You never want to end your season with a loss," said Millican. "I'm so proud of this 104+ Performance Additives team and all that we have accomplished this season, though. We made it to three straight finals earlier in the season and adjusted very quickly to the rule changes in the middle of the season. I'm looking forward to coming back strong in 2005."
Millican drove his special Elvis Presley-themed dragster for the third time this season, and qualified in the number six position with the third quickest E.T. of his career, 4.521 seconds, and his fourth best speed, 326.16 mph. Millican and the 104+ Performance Additives team were very consistent throughout qualifying, making three out of their four passes in the 4.5-second range.

Millican got off to a great start with a reaction time of 0.043 to McClenathan's 0.088, and was ahead until the 330 foot mark. McClenathan edged Millican at the line with an E.T. of 4.546 to 4.606, a margin of victory of just 0.0155 seconds.
Millican, the 2001, 2002, 2003, and 2004 IHRA Top Fuel Champion, raced in 10 of the 23 NHRA national events this season, and finished with a season won/lost record of 13-10. He made history in August by performing an 8,000 horsepower burnout down Elvis Presley Boulevard, a four lane highway in Memphis, to unveil the team's special Elvis Presley paint scheme. This was the first time that a legal Top Fuel burnout had taken place on a city street in over 17 years.
