Connolly's SKULL GEAR Chevy Cobalt Qualifies 11th

POMONA, Calif., Nov. 5, 2005 -- Unhappy following a 13-second qualifying run early Saturday afternoon, crew chief Terry Adams fixed a shock that wasn't absorbing properly on the SKULL GEAR Chevy Cobalt and Dave Connolly drove it to the fifth-best time in the final qualifying session on a hot track at Pomona Raceway.

"One of the shocks had an electrical problem," said Adams, "so we fixed it and we made a good run (for the warmer conditions)."

Connolly's best time, 6.715 seconds at 205.51 mph, came Friday and put him 11th in the starting lineup for Sunday's Auto Club Nationals. He was timed in 6.732 seconds at 205.26 seconds in Saturday's slowest qualifying session.

His opponent in the first round is Ricky Smith, also sponsored by SKULL GEAR. Smith's best of 6.705 at 205.79 placed him sixth.

"We'll be more confident going into eliminations because our race car ran better," said Connolly. "Our last run put us within a couple hundredths (of a second) of Rickie."
