Herbert Finishes Eighth in Top Fuel Standings

POMONA, Calif., Nov. 13, 2004 - Doug Herbert's 2004 NHRA POWERade Series season may have come to end a little earlier than the Snap-on Racing Top Fuel team wanted, but it signaled the beginning of the 2005 campaign.

Herbert lost to David Baca in Sunday's opening round of the Auto Club Finals at Pomona Raceway, Baca's car stopping the clock at 4.568 seconds, 325.06 mph to Herbert's 4.611 at 321.96.

"The car went down the track in the first round but we just got beat by a decent run," said Herbert, who finished eighth in series points with 1098. It was his sixth straight top 10 finish.

"We're going to be concentrating on next year," he continued. "We'll have to replace a few members on our crew but we we'll be ready to go when testing begins in January. We need to have a top five car next year. That's what we'll be aiming for."

Herbert qualified 14th (4.606 at 314.46 mph) for this 23rd race on the 23-event schedule.
