Fourth on Friday in Pomona, Anderson is Looking to Move Up J
Qualifying for the Auto Club NHRA Finals reached its midpoint on Friday, as for the second consecutive day the Pro Stock contingent had a single attempt on the Pomona quarter-mile. Once again, Greg Anderson's Summit Racing Pontiac clocked in near the top of the 23-car field, improving to a 6.630-second time with the second fastest speed of the round at 209.72 mph to slot fourth midway through time trials. Not satisfied with his current standing, the eight-time Pomona winner focused on further ascending the starting order during one of Saturday's remaining two attempts.
"I had high hopes after getting off to a pretty good start yesterday, but just missed it today," said Anderson. "Apparently changing over to the right lane threw a fork into our plans. It's not the same starting line, and we went way over the edge, spinning the tires way too hard. Now that we know you need to run you car differently in the right lane than you do in the left, this Summit Racing team will regroup.JJ"We'll be back in the left lane tomorrow morning, so hopefully we can make a higher quality run and get ourselves back near Mike Edwards, who showed everyone why he'll be the champion this year. We're not happy with today's results because we know we can run a whole lot better, but we'll use it as a learning experience and go forward."
