Anderson starts from No. 2` position

POMONA, Calif. (November 3, 2007) -- In Saturday's heat at the Auto Club Raceway at Pomona, Greg Anderson recorded times of 6.654 and 6.655 seconds in his KB Racing LLC-owned, Summit Racing Equipment -backed Pontiac GTO to qualify in the No. 2 position on the final qualifying ladder for the 43rd annual NHRA Auto Club Finals.

As eliminations for the 43rd annual NHRA Auto Club Finals gets underway tomorrow, up-to-date Pro Stock point standing following qualifying show Anderson at the front of the pack of the four drivers still contending for the championship. He has 3,153 points. Jeg Coughlin, Jr. has 3117, while his teammate Dave Connolly has amassed 3106 points. And rounding out the four places is Allen Johnson, who has 3,046 points.

Anderson will square off against Justin Humphreys, who qualified No. 14 with an elapsed time of 6.685 seconds, in the opening round tomorrow.

"It's going to take a runner-up finish, if not a win," said Anderson as he vies for the NHRA POWERade Pro Stock Championship. "If we go out before that before I can pretty much guarantee that we will not be POWERade champions.

"We can't worry about who we race or when we race. We just gotta go out and try and win for sure the first three rounds, then we'll be POWERade champions. But anything before that, any exit earlier than that, we're not going to be POWERade champions.

"I know my job. I got to go in full bore. I got to drive as hard as I can no matter who's in the other lane. It doesn't matter if it's a yellow car or a blue car. Anyone can beat you that qualifies. I certainly won't let my guard down, or I'll go home early."

At the season-closing event at the Auto Club Raceway of Pomona, he has won three times previously -- in 2003 (over Kurt Johnson), 2004 (over teammate Jason Line), and 2006 (again over Jason Line). He also has won the season-opening Winternationals three-times. At this year's season-opener he won over Greg Stanfield. In 2004, he turned back Warren Johnson, and, in 2006, he won over Mike Edwards. Overall, that's six wins in six final rounds since 2003 at the historic Pomona quarter-mile.

The third most prolific winner in Pro Stock history, Anderson, who won last weekend in Las Vegas, will be going after his 52nd career win at the Auto Club Finals. For the 2007 season in 22 races, Anderson has advanced to the final round 12 times and has come away with eight wins.
