Thursday in Pomona finds KJ in Eighth
After his commitments at the SEMA and AAPEX shows kept him in Las Vegas until Thursday, ACDelco Cobalt pilot Kurt Johnson made an early morning dash from the Nevada desert, arriving at the Auto Club Raceway in Pomona with time to spare prior to his first qualifying session for the Auto Club NHRA Finals. His next drive was not nearly as long, however, as he tripped the finish line timers in 6.706 seconds with a top speed of 206.73 mph, slotting him in the provisional eighth position.
With a solid start in the books, Johnson will now look to use one of his three attempts remaining over the next two days to further improve his standing for Sunday.
"That wasn't a bad first run, especially considering we were in the right lane, which we believe is slightly slower. We were a little aggressive, as we had planned to be coming into this race, which got us out of the groove just a bit. Comparing our run to what everyone else ran, we feel our ACDelco Cobalt should have been right near the top of the pack if we had made a good hit, which is what we will concentrate on doing tomorrow."
