Solid Effort Puts Humphreys Seventh at Pomona
RaceRedi Pontiac Team Runs Best of 6.660 Seconds
POMONA, Calif., Feb. 9, 2008 -- Justin Humphreys shook off a bad test session last week and turned in three consistent qualifying runs -- a best of 6.660 seconds at 207.94 mph -- to grab the No. 7 starting spot for Sunday's NHRA season-opening CARQUEST Auto Parts Winternationals at Auto Club Raceway at Pomona.
With Pro Stock icon Bob Glidden dialing in the RaceRedi Motorsports Pontiac GTO and Richard Maskin's motors providing the power, Humphreys rang up two other 6.60 efforts -- 6.679 (Friday) and 6.662 (in Saturday's first session). Not even a tire-shaking last attempt dulled the team's enthusiasm.
"I am happy we qualified and we are racing on Sunday," said Humphreys, who missed the starting lineup here in his 2007 rookie season. "The car ran well but we made some bad runs. We still finished in the top half of the field. It's always good to do that."
Humphreys squares off against V Gaines (No. 10, 6.684 at 206.39 mph) as he attempt to reach the final round for the second consecutive time at Pomona. He was runner-up to Jeg Coughlin in November.
