Pomona: Self comfortable with his chances

Pomona, Calif. (Pre-race) - Brain "Lump" Self, driver of the Roof-Tec Chevrolet S-10 Pro Stock Truck feels comfortable about his chances coming into this weekends 15th Annual Auto Club of Southern California NHRA Finals in Pomona, Calif.

Lump's comfort level comes from knowing that he has just as good of a chance to win this race as any other Pro Stock Truck competitor that pulls up to the starting line.

"The competition is brutal out there," said Self. "Right now, any guy on any given day can win. Since Indy, the field has really tightened up, and we are right there with the rest of them.

"I feel good coming into Pomona, because I know that I can run as good as anyone out there. If we get four qualifying shots in, we will be all right. We have run good out in Pomona before. There is no reason why we should not run good here again.

"We have a new truck, but that will not be a problem. The truck is awesome. It is quick and a proven race winner and that is what we are going to need to keep up.

"If it is as cool as they say it is going to be, it will be real fast this weekend. I would not be surprised if we saw runs in the mid-7.40's. If it is 60 degrees this weekend, there will be a bunch of trucks in the 40's. Right now, I feel confident that we can run in the 40's if the weather gets good.

"I feel good coming into Pomona. I have a good truck to race, plenty of horsepower, I am driving well, and I have a great team backing me up. I feel comfortable saying that I think this Roof-Tec team is going to have a good weekend. A very good weekend."

Qualifying at the 15th Annual Auto Club of Southern California NHRA Finals begins on Thursday Nov. 9, and continues Friday Nov. 10 and Saturday Nov. 11. Eliminations will take place on Sunday Nov. 12 at 11:00 AM PST.
