POMONA, Ca. - Steven Farr had two goals at the end of Thursday's first day of Pro Stock Truck qualifying at the 36th annual Automobile Club of Southern California NHRA Finals in Pomona, Ca. The 22-year old driver of the Jerry Haas Chevrolet S-10 avenged his shortcomings and stepped up with a 7.596/177.81. The vast improvement, unfortunately, only meant that he achieved half of his objectives. For the second day, he sits on the outside of the 16-truck field, just .008 off of the bump.
Anyone worth their salt in drag racing knowledge will concede that while .008 is a very small figure in elapsed time, it's an eternity when you consider that fraction of time in the Pro Stock Truck division.
"We wanted to step up after we had those problems on Thursday," explained Farr. "Jerry made some changes and told me to go up there to the line and give it my best. The run felt good and I can't complain because we got to where we needed to be. Hopefully tomorrow (Saturday) we'll jump into the field."
Farr's pass catapulted him into field, as he ascended to the 14th spot. He made the leap from the 24th spot.
His previous run on Thursday had netted a 7.674/176.30 best. The initial qualifying lap was off his usual pace and it was later determined that the S-10 had made the run with a broken fuel pump.
He will be afforded two more qualifying attempts on Saturday. Final eliminations are slated for Sunday.
