Dixon Improves With a 4.619-Second Pass as Racing Continues at Pomona

POMONA, Calif. (Feb. 27, 2004) -- Larry Dixon and the Don "the Snake" Prudhomme-owned Miller Lite team got back in the swing of things Friday as racing resumed at the season-opening Winternationals at Pomona Raceway.

Dixon, who eyes a third straight victory at the historic NHRA season-opener, powered his Dick LaHaie-tuned Miller Lite dragster to a run of 4.619 seconds at 314.90 mph to qualify his rail in the No. 9 position following two of four scheduled qualifying runs.

"Our goal is always to go from point A to point B without smoking the tires," Dixon said. "We also hope to gradually pick up the performance of the car. I would assume that (Dick) LaHaie isn't satisfied with a 4.61 and he'll try and pick up the performance of the car on Saturday."

Dixon and the Miller Lite team improved over the 4.662, 316.82 effort they posted last Thursday on the first run of the 2004 season. Dixon will have two additional qualifying sessions on Saturday afternoon at noon and 2:30 p.m. (PT), while final eliminations for the 44th annual Winternationals begin at 11 a.m. (PT) on Sunday.

ESPN2 will televise two hours of qualifying highlights from the K&N Filters Winternationals at 4:30 p.m. (ET) on Saturday, Feb. 28, and show two hours of final eliminations coverage beginning at 10 p.m. (ET) on Sunday, Feb. 29.
