Pro Stock Motorcycles roar into Infineon Raceway for FRAM Autolite Nationals.

SONOMA, Calif. - The Pro Stock Motorcycle class on the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing circuit offers a level of excitement and diversity rarely found in motorsport. The class features an age range of more than 35 years, riders of several ethnicities, and a female standout. Even the motorcycles reflect variety with bikes from Suzuki, Kawasaki and Harley-Davidson.

Despite the differences, all of these riders share two things in common - they all cover the quarter-mile in less than eight seconds at more than 180 mph and each will make their debut at Infineon Raceway at this year's NHRA FRAM Autolite Nationals, Aug. 2-4.

"I think it's really cool that we finally get to come out to Northern California. All the riders are very excited about coming because we've always wanted to race at Sonoma. Fans have asked me why we don't come out to Northern California, so I'm looking forward to racing in front of all the motorcycle fans up there," said NHRA POWERade rider Antron Brown, who placed second in the Pro Stock Motorcycle point standings in 2001.

It will be the first visit to Infineon Raceway for the bikes, and their ninth stop overall on their 14-race season for 2002. This class features 1992 or newer stock-appearing, carbureted, gasoline-burning machines that accelerate from 0-100 mph in less than two seconds. The series also features ethnic diversity with riders of African-American and Latino backgrounds. It's a mix rarely found in racing.

To top off the diversity and talent found in this class, rider Angelle Savoie is both the winningest female driver in NHRA POWERade history and only the second woman to win an NHRA POWERade championship. Savoie captured her second consecutive NHRA POWERade championship and seven event victories in 2001, and will look to continue that dominance in 2002. She led the point standings after seven events in 2002, while Craig Treble had three victories and sat in second place.

A varied group of riders looks to dethrone Savoie, however, including Brown, Shawn Gann, Reggie Showers, a double-amputee, and three-time Pro Stock Motorcycle champion, Matt Hines. These riders will encounter a brand new racing surface for their inaugural visit to Infineon Raceway, complete with a 660-foot concrete launch pad, which is likely to make for one of the quickest and fastest stops on the Pro Stock Motorcycle tour. Qualifying takes place Friday and Saturday (Aug. 2-3), with final eliminations set for Sunday. For more information, visit www.infineonraceway.com
