Anderson Qualifies Ninth, Looks for Better Balance in Reading

After battling to get a handle on their race car on Friday, Greg Anderson and the Summit Racing team came into the second day of qualifying for the Toyo Tires NHRA Nationals in Reading, PA looking to secure their spot in Sunday's final eliminations field. However Anderson allayed any concerns about his participation on race day in the morning session by posting the sixth-quickest time among the 24 cars attempting to qualify at 6.572-seconds with a top speed of 210.87 mph, good enough for the ninth starting position.

Anderson then closed out his qualifying effort with a 6.575-second, 209.82 mph pass on his final attempt before turning his attention to race day. Racing on the same side of the eliminations ladder as five of the top six racers in the championship standings, he acknowledged that both he and his KB Racing crew would need to improve in order to score their third consecutive win and third at Maple Grove Raceway.

"We have our work cut out for us tomorrow with our Summit Racing Pontiac," said Anderson. "For some reason, we were a little off on the set-up in all four sessions, which explains why we're starting ninth. We would make some progress in one area, but fall off in another. It all comes down to achieving a proper balance between the motor and the chassis, which is what we will need to find in order to challenge for the win.

"But we're not about to give up. After all, we have the equipment and the people to get the job done. Besides, we've already won twice this year from the ninth position. Looking at the ladder, it certainly won't be easy, but we're going to give it all we've got, and see what we can come up with. Who knows -- maybe we can get out of here with another win."
