Line Drives to Semifinal Finish in Reading
Summit Racing Pro Stock racer Jason Line had a return to form on Sunday, advancing to the semifinals of today's Toyo Tires Nationals in Reading, PA. Starting fourth, Line gained a two hundredths of a second advantage on veteran Kurt Johnson at the starting line and then won a pedal fest with each driver fighting to regain traction and cross the finish line first. In the second round, the 2006 Pro Stock champion used a more conventional method, posting his quickest elapsed time of the weekend at 6.559 seconds to eliminate fellow playoff participant Greg Stanfield.
This set the stage for a semifinal encounter with his KB Racing teammate Greg Anderson, who came into the event having won the last two races, and had posted low elapsed time and top speed of the weekend in the earlier rounds. Running in the less-preferred right hand lane, Line posted a solid 6.590-second time and 210.47 mph top speed. However, it fell just shy of matching his running mate's 6.573-second pass. Although naturally disappointed to not advance to the final, he was nevertheless pleased with his performance, which allowed him to move up to the fourth position in the championship standings.
"The Summit Racing team had a great today," said Line. "Our car was pretty darn good, but obviously the last thing you want to do is run into the hottest car in Pro Stock before the final, who at least in this case happened to be my teammate. Still, it was a good performance overall. We avoided the miscues from the last few races, went a few rounds and made up some ground on our competitors.
"We have a couple of weeks before we head to Las Vegas, where we look forward to having our team owner Ken Black join us at the track. We'll take advantage of the time to work on our hot rods, so we can put on a great show for Ken, Judy and whole family, doing what we can to finish the season strong, as well as helping our teammate win the championship. We're leaving here with some positive momentum, knowing that we have a car that could easily win the last two races. It's all good."
