Fifth on Friday, Line Looks to Move Up in Reading

Although the first day of qualifying for the Toyo Tires Nationals in Reading, PA featured clear blue skies and temperatures in the 70's, all on-track action was delayed by several hours as the NHRA and Maple Grove Raceway staff worked to alleviate issues created by the heavy rains from earlier in the week. Fortunately, once racing got underway, the capacity crowd was treated to two very quick sessions, with the Pro Stock category resetting both the elapsed time and top speed track records.

Jason Line and his Summit Racing team continued to run well, opening with a solid 6.568-second, 210.08 mph run, which remained their run of record after posting a 6.596-second time in the evening session. Fortunately, with similar conditions forecast for Saturday, Line looks forward to improving his standing during one of the remaining two sessions.

"The NHRA and the folks at Maple Grove worked very hard to make sure we had a good race track to race on today, and we certainly appreciate their effort, because we wanted to put on a good show for this great crowd," said Line. "As far as my Summit Racing Pontiac is concerned, it made a pretty decent run in the first session. If we really wanted to pick it apart, we might find another hundredth in it, but it was still good for our first run down the track.

"Unfortunately, we just missed the set-up in the evening. Just like many of our competitors, we underestimated the track, and were a little light on the clutch with all three cars. These conditions are different from any other we've had to deal with all year, and it can be pretty tricky to get the car dialed in. The good news is that we still have two attempts remaining and the weather is supposed to stay the same, so we still have a good shot of putting ourselves in a better position for race day."
