Humphreys Doesn't Make Maple Grove Raceway Top 16

READING, Pa., August 18, 2007 -- Justin Humphreys improved his elapsed time to 6.706 seconds in Saturday's final qualifying session but failed to run quick enough to make the starting lineup for Sunday's Toyo Tires Nationals at Maple Grove Raceway, one of his home tracks.

His RaceRedi Motorsports/Knoll-Gas Energy Pro Stock Pontiac GTO needed to run better than 6.647 seconds in the afternoon session. Cooler weather brought quicker times than Friday. Humphreys had the makings of a good run in Saturday's opening round, but a broken motor when he shifted into third gear took care of that one. The car made a move to the left on his last run, slowing the e.t.

"Losing that first run really hurt us and we had chassis issues on the last run," said Humphreys, of Monrovia, Md., an 80-minute drive from Maple Grove. "We are having trouble getting the car to run straight.

"We can't seem to qualify when we get close to home. We had a lot of friends and family here and we couldn't get it done."
