BROWN QUALIFIES MATCO TOOLS RAIL EIGHTH AT RICHMOND

PETERSBURG, Va. (Oct. 11, 2008) -- Antron Brown drove his David Powers-owned Matco Tools dragster to the No. 8 qualifying position Saturday afternoon at Virginia Motorsports Park with a qualifying-best elapsed time of 3.823-seconds.

Brown entered the final day of qualifying for the third annual Virginia NHRA Nationals in the No. 5 position with a lap of 3.823 seconds at 308.57 mph on Friday's first qualifying attempt. That was Brown's second quickest 1,000-foot lap since the change to 1,000-foot racing in July. On Saturday's first attempt, the Matco Tools rail overpowered the Virginia Motorsports Park track and slowed to a pass of 9.763 at 72.25. On his final qualifying attempt of the Richmond race, Brown blistered the V.M.P. track with a lap of 3.837 at 306.26 to finish eight in the 16-car order. It is the 18th time that Brown has qualified the Matco car in the top half of the field this season.

"Man, the Matco car made two really good runs," Brown said. "I think those were the second and third quickest runs we've made at 1,000-foot. Lee (Beard) has this Matco car hopped up. It's making a lot of horsepower and we're having to tune it back a little bit to get down the track. I have all the confidence in my Matco boys to do the job and we're going to go out tomorrow and try and get our second-place ranking back."

Brown will match-up against No. 9 qualifier Brandon Bernstein in the opening round of Top Fuel eliminations at 11 a.m. (ET) on Sunday. Brown is 1-2 against the perennial title contender this season.
