RICHMOND, VA. (Oct. 15) -- Morgan Lucas was toppled in the first round of Sunday's racing action at the inaugural running of the Torco Race Fuels Nationals at Virginia Motorsports Park by his good friend and NHRA 'Brat Pack' rival, Brandon Bernstein.
In their first round race, Lucas reacted first (.091 - .098) and moved briefly ahead of Bernstein before his challenger went around Morgan towards the end of the quarter-mile taking the first round win by the slight margin of victory of .063-thousandths of a second. Lucas recorded an elapsed time of 4.632 seconds, 284.15 mph to Bernstein's quicker time of 4.562 seconds, 315.05 mph.
Morgan qualified his Lucas Oil Racing dragster in the No. 12 position with an elapsed time of 4.601 seconds at a speed of 311.70 mph after the four sessions were completed.
Lucas retains his place of eighth at the completion of 21 of 23 NHRA National events in the POWERade Top Fuel points standings now with 979 points and needs 87 to overtake seventh-place runner, Larry Dixon.
The next NHRA National event will be the sixth annual running of the AC Delco Las Vegas Nationals in two weeks at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway on Oct. 27-29.
