ANTRON BROWN CARDS PROVISIONAL NO. 5 SPOT FRIDAY AT SEATTLE
KENT, Wash. (July 9, 2010) - Antron Brown raced his Don Schumacher-owned Matco Tools/U.S. Army dragster to the provisional No. 5 qualifying position Friday afternoon at Pacific Raceways near Seattle. The 24-time NHRA winner used a Friday-best lap of 3.964-seconds.
Brown, who enters the 14th race on the 2010 NHRA schedule ranked fourth in the NHRA Top Fuel standings, opened qualifying at a hot Pacific Raceways track by posting the second quickest pass of the first qualifying session. The defending event champion of the Seattle race used a tune-up from crew chiefs Brian Corradi and Mark Oswald to power the bright blue Matco Tools/U.S. Army dragster to a lap of 4.051 seconds at 294.75 mph. The run earned the Matco Tools flagship driver two bonus points. Only DSR teammate and U.S. Racing driver Tony Schumacher was quicker at 3.97-seconds. On Friday's second attempt, Brown improved with a lap of 3.964 at 303.03 to finish fifth in the 16-car order on Friday. He qualified 10th at Pacific Raceways last July.
"It was a hot one out there today, but we made two good laps," Brown said. "I can't believe it's in the 90s here at Seattle, but we love it. Our car has been running great in this hot weather and it's supposed to cool off for the rest of the weekend. I really think Saturday's first pass will be when we set the field."
