FRIDAY'S RACING ACTION WASHED AWAY AT SEATTLE

KENT, Wash. (July 20, 2007) -- The Seattle area and the Pacific Northwest are known for many things from the beautiful scenery to the great seafood. The area also is well known for rain; even in July. The rain did not go away on Friday at Pacific Raceways as persistent rain showers forced NHRA officials to cancel the opening day of qualifying at the 20th annual Schuck's Auto Supply Nationals.

Not one car made a pass on the Pacific Raceways quarter mile on Friday. The two David Powers-owned dragsters of Rod Fuller and Whit Bazemore enter the event ranked first and seventh in the NHRA POWERade Top Fuel standings. Fuller edged Bazemore in the final round at Bandimere Speedway near Denver last Sunday for the first one-two finish for the up-and-coming race team. Fuller leads second-placer racer Larry Dixon by 144 points, while Bazemore is tied with veteran racer David Grubnic for seventh place. He sits just seven points from the No. 6 position. Both Fuller and Bazemore will take aim at Dixon's track records (4.490 seconds, 331.36 mph) on Saturday afternoon. Fuller has two victories in four final rounds this season and has earned three poles. Bazemore captured his 30th career pole in late March and advanced to his first career Top Fuel final last Sunday.

"This is a good reason why people from California shouldn't move to the Northwest, it does rain all the time," Bazemore joked. "Seriously, it's the same for everybody and it rewards the teams that have their combinations really sorted out. We'll come out and do what we can do. It definitely puts some pressure on to qualify."

"It's a serious amount of pressure being the points leader and having our qualifying streak," Fuller added. "We're not worried about qualifying up top, we just want to get the car in the show. Plus, the weather looks sketchy for the rest of the weekend. But, I'm very confident in our team's ability. We seem to do well in our first run out of the box. So, we'll just roll the dice tomorrow."

Top Fuel qualifying resumes on Saturday afternoon with sessions scheduled for Noon and 3 p.m. (PT) at Pacific Raceways. ESPN2 will televise two hours of qualifying highlights at 11:30 p.m. (ET).
