Densham sets sights on performance improvements

KENT, Wash. (July 18) - Funny Car driver Gary Densham hasn't had the best of luck in the first half of the 2007 NHRA season but is ready to turn things around this weekend at 20th annual Schuck's Auto Supply NHRA Nationals at Pacific Raceways.

The 35-year drag racing veteran and former school teacher from Bellflower, Calif. feels his team has proven its stamina and ability to overcome adversity and hopes that all of their hard work will pay off at this event.

"We're due for something good to happen," Densham said. "We have not done all that well here in the past so it looks to me that we have that going for us. I mean, we're overdue for some good luck this season and especially at this track. Hopefully the stars will align just right for us this weekend."

Even though the Torco Racing Fuels / Racebricks Collectibles Funny Car team has struggled this season, Densham feels the car is capable of competing with the point leaders.

"When you're racing at this level, you're usually dealing with a few thousands of a second between the number one and number 16 qualifiers," Densham said. "Our car is competitive when it comes to performance. Now all we have to do is have a little luck fall our way and we can show everybody what I've been saying all along. We have what it takes to go rounds and win.

"Seattle is a beautiful part of the country and the folks at Pacific Raceways have made a number of improvements to the facility so this would be the perfect place to put a couple of win notches on the trailer walls.

"The three most important things that happen up here are the hydroplane races, when the sun shines and when the NHRA comes to town. We're here and it's time to put the hammer down."
