Line Seeks Continued Progress in Seattle

Mooresville, N.C., July 7, 2010 -- The search for speed in the NHRA's Full Throttle Drag Racing Series is a never-ending process. This is particularly true in the highly competitive Pro Stock category, where entire fields are often covered by a few hundredths of a second. Teams continually work overtime trying to find a way to better their on-track performance, whether by generating extra horsepower or maximizing how the chassis uses said power.

It is a process that has started to pay dividends for Jason Line and the Summit Racing team, who in recent weeks have shown flashes of the winning form for which they are so well known, a trend he looks to continue at this weekend's NHRA Northwest Nationals in Kent, WA.

"The good news is that we continue to make progress with our Summit Racing Pontiacs," said Line. "In fact, the race car that I had on Sunday in Norwalk was probably the best one I had all season, which is certainly encouraging, especially considering those were conditions that had given us trouble earlier in the year. We're certainly not where we want to be as far as the performance is concerned, but the important part is that we're directionally correct, and, as Greg (teammate Anderson) showed in Norwalk, capable of winning races under the right conditions.

"What we have to do now is apply what we've learned and continue to move forward, so we can contend for wins on a weekly basis, putting ourselves in a great position for the playoffs. That may sound easy, but it won't be. We're pretty pleased with what we've been able to accomplish of late, but know we still have some work to do."

Fortunately, the potential for continued improvement looks favorable, as the straight-line set is headed to a track where Line has achieved recent success, Pacific Raceways. Located in the Seattle suburb of Kent, this venerable quarter-mile offers spectacular views of Mount Rainier and atmospheric conditions favorable to the naturally-aspirated "factory hot rods". With a win and a runner-up finish in his last two visits to the Pacific Northwest, the quiet-spoken Minnesotan is understandably anxious to return.

"I've always enjoyed racing in Seattle," stated Line. "It's a pretty part of the country and racing at sea level, where we make more power and run faster is obviously a lot of fun. The racing surface was pretty nice after they repaved it a couple years ago, so it shouldn't be a problem this year. Still we'll have to check it when we get there to see what a year's worth of Washington weather did to it.

"Although the forecast is calling for it to be a little warmer than usual for Friday, it still will be nicer than the oppressive heat a lot of the nation is experiencing, which is good for both the racers and the fans."

Beyond the primary goal of winning the race, Line and his KB Racing team will also be looking to better their standing for the NHRA playoffs. With only four races remaining before the Countdown to One begins in Indianapolis, each round takes on added significance, and the 21-time national event winner is looking to make the most of every opportunity.

"This Summit Racing team is working on peaking at just the right moment, which naturally is the start of the playoffs at the U.S. Nationals," said Line. "However, in order to do that, we need to get the job done in these last four races so we can place ourselves as high as possible going into the Countdown. The best way to do that is by winning races, getting into a groove where everything just falls in place. We've been chipping away at it over the last few months, and have started to see some results.

Our objective is to keep the process going this weekend in Seattle."
