DIXON PACES TOP FUEL FIELD FRIDAY AT SEATTLE; SETS TRACK SPEED RECORD AT 326.40 MPH

KENT, Wash. (July 22, 2005) - Two-time NHRA Top Fuel champion Larry Dixon drove his Miller Lite dragster to the provisional No. 1 qualifying position Friday at Pacific Raceways after racing to a pass of 4.541 seconds at 326.40 mph.

After the Miller Lite rail overpowered the race track on Friday's opening run, Dixon used a tune-up from crew chief Dick LaHaie to race to the quickest pass of the day as the Miller Lite/Ameriquest rail stopped the Pacific Raceway timers in 4.541 at 326.40. Dixon's speed was a Pacific Raceways track speed record, eclipsing Kenny Bernstein's three year-old speed mark (323.58 mph).

"The conditions were good," Dixon said. "I knew if we got the chance to run Friday night that someone would fire a shot and it would stick. Thankfully, it was us. We needed to get down the race track to ensure that we got in the show."

Dixon and Don Prudhomme's Miller Lite team look to earn their third low qualifying award of the season and 26th of Dixon's career when Top Fuel qualifying continues with sessions scheduled for noon and 3:30 p.m. (PT) on Saturday afternoon. Dixon won the Seattle race in 2003.
