DIXON EXCITED TO RETURN TO DRAG RACING REALITY WITH SEA LEVEL CONDITIONS AT SEATTLE

KENT, Wash. (July 19, 2005) - The three-race Western Swing that takes the NHRA drag racing circuit from Denver to Seattle and Sonoma, Calif. in consecutive weeks is arguably the most publicized portion of the 23-race schedule due to the demanding timetable and an assortment of race conditions that the teams are faced with from one week to the next.

The three-week swing begins with the Mile-High Nationals near Denver where the race teams must battle not only the sweltering summertime heat, but the altitude that reaches nearly 6,000 feet above sea level. For the Denver race, the teams run an entirely different setup than they use at any other race track in order to combat the arduous elements of competing at such a high altitude.

This week, the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing series stops at Pacific Raceways near Seattle for the 18th annual CARQUEST Auto Parts Nationals, July 22-24. Two-time NHRA Top Fuel champion Larry Dixon drove his Miller Lite dragster to the win at the Seattle event two seasons ago. It's one of 18 tracks on tour where the veteran racer has visited the winner's circle. Dixon's team owner and legendary racer Don "the Snake" Prudhomme is a two-time winner at the scenic Pacific Northwest facility (1975-76).

Last month, Dixon and Prudhomme's Miller Lite team dominated the competition in New Jersey with a 4.524-second average elapsed time where Dixon collected his 37th career victory. The New Jersey track and Pacific Raceways are both seasoned facilities that are surrounded by trees and feature low elevation, a combination of vital racing elements that Dixon welcomes.

"Now that we're going back to sea level, we'll put the race car back to a normal combination that we are used to running with," Dixon said. "I'm hoping that we'll pick up where we left off at Englishtown because we did pretty well there. The air should be decent at Seattle and we seem to do all right in those conditions. So, I'm looking forward to the event."

Dixon enters the Seattle event in third position in the Top Fuel standings, 89 points from the top spot. If his Dick LaHaie-tuned Miller Lite/Ameriquest rail performs with a quick consistency, Top Fuel racing's winningest active driver has an excellent shot to collect win No. 38 and vault himself closer to the team's goal of being atop the points standings.
